Relay FAQs

These are some FAQs for our Relay event on race day. If you have any other queries about the Relay, please get in touch with The Sussex Beacon fundraising team at fundraising@sussexbeacon.org.uk.

Where does the relay start?

The first runner will begin the relay at the same place and time as the Brighton Half Marathon. This means you get the full atmosphere of running a half marathon, for only a fraction of the distance! The other three runners will start at marked change-over points along the course. These will be located on a map, and clearly sign posted on the day.

Do I have to have four runners?

Yes, all teams must have four runners each. No one runner is permitted to run more than one leg as part of their relay.

Can I enter more than one team?

Of course! Simply increase the quantity to the number of teams you wish to enter.

Who can enter?

Anyone over the age of 17 can enter if they are healthy enough to do so.

How do I know if my online entry worked?

You will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive an email, please contact half.marathon@sussexbeacon.org.uk.

When do entries close?

There are a limited number of places in the relay, whilst registration can remain open until the end of January, it will close early if all places are filled. If you find registration has closed when you try to sign up, please email fundraising@sussexbeacon.org.uk with your interest, and we will be in touch if we receive a cancellation.

Can I get a refund or deferral?

Sorry we do not offer refunds or deferrals.

I live abroad, can I still enter?

Yes, we welcome entrants from overseas. If needed, you can collect your race packs and T-shirts on the day from our help desk.

Do I have to pay a booking fee?

Yes, there is a small booking fee of £1 per team.

Can I carry on running once I have passed the baton to my team mate?

If you would like to continue running to experience the finish line, you are welcome to do so once you have completed your leg of the relay and passed on your baton to your next team mate.

Does it matter what race number we wear?

It is very important that your four runners wear the correct race number for the leg they are running in order for your chip time to work. For example, the runner completing the first leg must wear the race number for their teams first runner, and the runner completing the last leg must wear the race number for their teams last runner. Wearing the wrong race numbers will result in an incorrect time or no time at all, resulting in disqualification.

Can we change our team runners details later?

Yes, after you have registered your team, you will be sent details to set up an online account if you wish too. This account will allow you access to your registration, so you can update details or change runners completely. Please note, any changes must be made by the end of January

Where do we get our race packs and T-shirts?

Further details will be sent out soon about how to get your teams race packs (including your numbers) and your T-shirts. This page will also be updated.

Can we fundraise for another charity?

No, this is strictly a fundraising event for The Sussex Beacon. If you fundraise for another charity instead, your team will unfortunately not be permitted to take part in the event.

Can I give my race number to someone else on the day?

No, the details your runners registered with must be accurate so our safety teams can access your details using your race number during the event should they need to.
